When it was time to pick a paint for my Ace, I remembered
the description given as 'blue, but so dark, it's almost
black'. I borrowed some paint swatches and selected what
I thought was a suitable colour, then bought a rattle can
and sprayed a large panel. I found that, although the
very small colour swatch looked dark, when sprayed over a
large area it looked much lighter. I then picked a darker
swatch and tried again. Third time lucky - I decided on a
Mitsubishi colour, B90 Codoba Blue. Whether it is 'right'
or not is not certain but I like it.

Few more jobs to go before it's finished, some you can
see (no brake rods yet) and some you can't see (no
pistons yet....) but I wanted to get it ready to take to
the European AMCA meet in Raalte back in May and the new
pistons didn't arrive in time!

I've been searching for a good paint code for Packard
Blue for my 1921 Ace, when I remembered I had a small can
of "Henderson Blue" from my Charlie Cole memorabilia. I
shook the can and it was still good. So I took the risk
of opening it and making a sample card for paint
scanning. I re-sealed the can with wax when I closed it
up again. I believe Packard Blue is correct for early
Hendersons and Ace. One time when Steve Ciccalone was
stranded at my place during a blizzard, we drank beer,
ate steaks and compared NOS Ace and Henderson parts and
the colors appeared to be identical. I would still like
a good paint code for Ace just as a backup. Once I get
the scan performed, I'll make the formula available to
the group.
