Rick: For the seats I have soldered a bearing ball to a rod, coated the ball with grinding compound and lapped the seats by hand. Tom ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Well I thought I might have a solution to the leaking part. I spun up a fixture in the lathe to hold the valve by the threads and took .001" cuts at 45 degrees until any nicks or grooves were gone. Looked really pretty but when I put it back together it still leaked. Must be some flaw in the seat..... I'm thinking maybe I can make another fixture, that will screw to the valve body and hold a small Dremel tool burr or stone in alignment to dress the seat inside. The handles on mine are different. One is like a clock key handle and the other is just a piece of sheet metal brazed to the valve. Obviously a past repair. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- I was not too happy with the two I got from Lytle. They leak by, new out of the box. It's a good thing I have a new, tight gross needle in my carb. Then, just last week I went to open the right side and the petcock handle came off in my hand. I, for one, would like to upgrade if someone has a better mousetrap. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Here's a photo of Chris on the podium with the Henderson at the Quail a couple of weekends ago. I was wondering what is out there for petcocks too. Saw some postings about Lytle's but they didn't look encouraging and are a few years old. I've got one that is seeping a bit and won't respond too my repair attempts. The bike is a '29 KJ Stresmline. Does anyone know the thread size? It looks like I need to raise the tank on the right to get the old one out, the left is a maybe. |
