No Doug, not mine. Me? sell my Hen? You must be joking! No, the one in the Bonhams sale belonged to my good friend Tony Held. You'll remember him from the Irish National. As you know, he recently passed away so all his bikes are in the auction. Tony bought the Henderson in the late 1980s at an auction, got it home and went for a ride on it round the block - our blocks are pretty small so had to be less than a mile. He arrived back home and turned into the driveway, his foot slipped off the clutch and he shot forward and piled into the workshop door - the front mudguard (and the door) wore the battle scars for years! He immediately fitted a front brake as a direct result of this experience and then set off on the Coventry to Brighton Run. Now, we have to cover a couple of hundred miles to get to Coventry so his second ride on the Hen was about 450 miles in total over two days - not bad eh? When he told me this story, I decided I needed a front brake too. The only time I've ridden it without one was when I was out on a run and the nipple pullled off the front brake cable. The trip home was probably about 25-30 miles through some pretty busy traffic - not much fun so that cable was repaired as soon as I got home! - Steve

I had to take a second look at the Henderson in the Bonham's
site. Looked like your bike with the front brake.

Fancy a four? Indian, Henderson, Ace and Cleveland fours all
up for auction here in the UK -
