I was always wondering if the serial number on my bike was original - the KJ is much smaller than the numbers and not quite in a straight line with the numbers.

I learned that there is a hidden serial number in the engine block. Unfortunately, it was a hard lesson to learn.

One of the bolts holding my clutch pressure plate to the flywheel loosened up, dug a hole in the lower engine case (and undoubtedly in the upper also), and then broke off. Ugh. So I've got the engine on the workbench now, and starting on dis-assembly.

Underneath the timing gear cover, the serial number is also stamped in the engine block. The KJ there is also smaller than the numbers, and also not quite straight.

Question answered - the numbers match, so I'm original.
