Thanks Tom, I had forgotten the obvious connection to Gilera it has been so
long since I read the book! The fact that I always did remember and found
amusing is that Taruffi's dad encouraged him to become a motorcycle ( and
later car) racer as his dad was a doctor and said if he got injured he could
patch him up!

WOW! Never heard of that one. Talk about ahead of it's time! Pre Gilera
Rondine. Of course if we are talking pure racing fours cross frame it's a whole
different kettle of fish. Here is a page from Taruffi's autobiography describing
a
similar exotic transverse racing four he tried out in 1928!
