Hi Russell,

Yes I understand what you are doing,

If you are machining the pans to fit an undersize bearing, what are you doing about the upper case housings wearing oversize?
Are you just sticking a RH bearing with worn out threads back into an oversize housing? Or are you using an undersize tap in an oversize upper case hole?

I've never had a problem fitting the new bearings, the original bearings and housings had a very shallow depth with a large basic crest and root radius so cleaning up the housing to fit a brand new bearings works very well.

All these original bearings were held in by the bearing bolts on each side and a set screw with plenty of crush, plus the case bolts. What really wears is the bearing bore.

You can also address worn mainshaft bearing bores by boring oversize and pressing in a bushing, but on a brand new engine its nice to see brand new mainshaft bearings rather than knackered up ones.

Regards

Rob

I have put a significsnt number of new pans on Deluxe as well as KJ engines. In every case the sprocket side main shaft bearing had been run loose causing the threads of the bearing and housing to be worn down. This is not a problem for me because I machine the housings to fit the bearing threads. That is why my finishing taps go down to .040" undersize.
This consistant housing wear is the reason why I ask if you are going to provide bearings in a variety size of oversize threadings. To avoid confusion...housings wear oversize and bearings wear undersize. I machine new pans to fit undersize bearings.

Hi Russell

On occasion I've had to clean up case threads and where I've welded and remachined the housing I recut new threads, but in 95% of the time I can adjust the crest and get a perfect tight fit.

Since the angles were all 60 deg and the original crest was a radius. If you keep the thread crest profile without a radius you have adjustment

Are you suggesting that the factory made custom threaded mainshaft bearings for every DeLuxe and KJ engine?

Rob

I have a question about the 1-7/8 - 14 thread on your new bearings. Since I have been installing new oil pans on Hendersons I have found my finished tap sizes to be between 1.845" to 1.870". This was due to poor housing setups in earlier life times. How do you address this? Someone with housing sizes .030" plus over would need custom threading.

I now have in stock new spline shaft bearings
Left and right side
Includes felt packing, modern seal and the packing nut

ID .975 requires boring to fit your spline shaft.

Thanks
