Indnrdr - I bought one of Old Iron's Indian Chief Oil Filter kits. I got some 1/8" x 1/2" aluminum bar, and made the inserts like you made for your bike for mounting on the front cross-tube. After trial-mounting - at first, I could not understand why you have scratches in your fender - it seemed to have plenty of clearance. But, after looking at it for awhile, I figured that it must be from hitting potholes - when the front end flexes - the wheel could be drawn back far enough to cause interference. So I trial-mounted it on the right downtube - as high as possible and still allowing to get the filter off - since the bracket was made for 1-3/8 - same for Indian as Hen. It fit OK, but was kinda close to the "hot" end of the cylinders, and made the piping kinda ugly. Then I trial-mounted it to the left downtube, and it is on the "cool-end" of the cylinders, hides behind the generator, and makes piping more "Streamline"-d. I agree - your mounting is more asthetic, but given the fender clearance problems, doesn't the left downtube make more sense? Or am I missing something? Dave |
