Marty, where the shifter shaft goes through the casting, the spring goes on first butting against the inside of the casting, then the flat washer, lock washer and nut. This is the way Scharle had it on the KL so I assume its correct. If the spring is between the shifter and the outside of the casting it pushes your shifter(s) out from the tank. I can't remember exactly but I think there is a small flat washer between the reverse and forward shifters when you have the double set up.

What is the correct location of the small spring used to take up slack where the shifters attach at the tank when you have forward and reverse? Between the two shifters, between the forward shifter and the tank, or behind the tank where the bolt goes through and is retained by the double nuts? Not obvious from the parts book. Marty
