When I sold my business and retired a local motorcycle dealer told me that he had a project for me! That project was a 1949 Indian Arrow in boxes and the first antique motorcycle in my collection. Prior to the Arrow, my restoration projects had been cars including a complete body off of a 1963 Corvette. How quickly things changed as I got more and more interested in antique motorcycles.
It soon became apparent to me that the bike I had to have was a Henderson because my name was Henderson. In December 2002 I purchased my 1931 KJ in upstate New York and began what became an 8-1/2 year project. I was fortunate because my Henderson was fairly complete and I have always intended to keep it as original as I could. Aside from a long delay to have some of the engine work done, I did the remainder of the restoration myself including the paint. While waiting for the engine work to be done, I restored several other bikes and also built two customs using antique engines. Some of you might have seen my 1950 Crosley 4 motorcycle at Davenport two years ago.
Thanks to everyone on the KJ Exchange for the help and encouragement. It's great to see more reliable engine builders and parts fabricators on the Henderson scene. We all miss Carl.
See you on the road. I'm the Henderson on the Henderson!!!
